On Nov. 14 and 15 the debate team, escorted by team sponsor Kristopher Clancy, traveled to Katy Taylor High School and competed in various debate and other speaking events.
“It was an awesome experience and I’m proud of my new team,” Clancy said. “We are on our way to nationals.”
Debate Captain and President Ramsha Babar made it all the way to finals and placed sixth in the oratory event. The event requires a student to give a memorized speech that has to last at least ten minutes. Babar spoke about a topic entitled, “I Am Not a Terrorist.”
“This weekend was an inspiring experience having such a strong new team,” Babar said. “We have a lot of new talent.”
Other debaters who competed include Paola Obispo, Nnamelu Akunne, Nikolas Prazak, Shil Shukla, Jazmine Mccain, Logan Shoemaker, and Rhianna Campbell. Mccain, Vice President of the Debate Team, made it all the way the second round of oratory, and Rhianna Campbell made it to the second round of impromptu speaking.
Next, the debate team plans on attending a competition at the University of Texas in Austin on Dec. 6 and 7.
